In a rematch of the APP Vlasic Classic Cincinnati final back in June, top seed Ronan Camron had unfinished business against Dusty Boyer — the champion from that Cincinnati meeting. Camron won game one 11-7 and built a 6-1 lead in game two before Boyer cut the deficit to 9-8. But Camron closed out the final two points to take it 11-8 and claim gold in front of a fired-up crowd.
"I'm not from here, but I think I had a little bit of crowd support here today," Camron said. "I've been focused on every match just trying my best and to not give up even if the score is down big."
Hungary's Balint Bako took home the bronze — his first-ever APP Tour medal.
In women's singles, Katerina Stewart continued her dominant 2026 by defeating her own doubles partner, Bobbi Oshiro, 11-0 and 11-7, to claim her third gold medal of the year.
"I'm feeling great, it's always good to come in here and leave with a medal," Stewart said. "It's always fun playing against Bobbi. We have a good idea of how we both play, so it's just a matter of who could impose their game better."

Beyond the medals, the 2026 APP Detroit Open marked the APP Tour's debut in Detroit, with hundreds of players competing at the Vibe Credit Union Showplace in Novi — from elite pros to the AARP Champions (50+) and Masters (60+) divisions, the Humana Cup, and amateur players of all levels from across the region.
In the AARP Champions division, Eugenia Carolina Lopez Ascarate, Marcello Jardim and Karin Ptaszek-Kochis each won two gold medals. Jaime Oncins and Dayne Gingrich also brought home gold. Title: The Comeback Nobody Saw Coming: Bates and Maddox Steal Detroit
Subtitle: Down 3-10 in the second set and facing three match points, the duo refused to lose — closing the match on a 20-1 run to claim gold in the APP's Motor City debut.
Detroit, Michigan — There are comebacks, and then there's what Christine Maddox and Shelby Bates did on Sunday at the Vibe Credit Union Showplace in Novi, Michigan.
The women's pro doubles final had all the makings of a straightforward coronation for Megan Fudge and Kara Wheatley. The two-seeds took game one 11-1, leaving no room for doubt, and opened a 10-3 lead in game two. At that point, with three match points on the table, anyone would have started writing the recap.
Bates and Maddox didn't write it that way.
From that 3-10 deficit, the duo found something they couldn't fully explain afterward. Nine straight points. Three match points saved. A 12-10 that left the crowd on its feet and Fudge and Wheatley wondering what had just happened. And they didn't stop there: with the momentum still alive, Bates and Maddox ran away with game three, 11-1, to seal the gold on a total 20-1 run after being one point from elimination.
"I don't really have any words," Bates said after the match. "Trust in each other, being willing to grind, diligence, the man upstairs, and just don't miss a ball."
Maddox went further in describing what it means to play alongside Bates in a moment like that. "I know Shelby's a fighter. I love to have a fighter next to me — I know that I could do my best work when my partner's right there with me in the fight. I fight for her, she fights for me, and we fight for it. That's what pulled us through today."
Amanda Hendry and Nicola Schoeman took home the bronze medal in the division.
Livornese Jr. Crowned Twice in a Historic Afternoon
While Bates and Maddox were staging the comeback of the tournament, Richard Livornese Jr. was putting together his own perfect afternoon. Alongside Nicola Schoeman, he won mixed doubles gold — Schoeman's first career title on the APP Tour — after a 12-10, 11-3 win over Megan Fudge and Aidan Schenk.
"It feels amazing," Schoeman said of her first gold medal. "Confidence is key. If you come to a tournament and you don't think you can win, why are you there?"
Livornese Jr. wasn't done. Hours later, alongside Jack Munro, he defended the men's doubles title for the fourth consecutive time, rallying from a 6-10 deficit in game one to win it 12-10, then closing out game two 11-7 against first-time finalists Etienne Blaszkewycz and Callan Dawson.
"Jack was unbelievable," Livornese Jr. said of his partner. "We were down 10-6 and he just took over. I did my job and he always does his, so credit to him."
Ronan Camron and Drake Palm earned the bronze medal in men's doubles.
Camron Gets His Revenge in Men's Singles, Stewart Claims Her Third Gold of the Year
In a rematch of the APP Vlasic Classic Cincinnati final back in June, top seed Ronan Camron had unfinished business against Dusty Boyer — the champion from that Cincinnati meeting. Camron won game one 11-7 and built a 6-1 lead in game two before Boyer cut the deficit to 9-8. But Camron closed out the final two points to take it 11-8 and claim gold in front of a fired-up crowd.
"I'm not from here, but I think I had a little bit of crowd support here today," Camron said. "I've been focused on every match just trying my best and to not give up even if the score is down big."
Hungary's Balint Bako took home the bronze — his first-ever APP Tour medal.
In women's singles, Katerina Stewart continued her dominant 2026 by defeating her own doubles partner, Bobbi Oshiro, 11-0 and 11-7, to claim her third gold medal of the year.
"I'm feeling great, it's always good to come in here and leave with a medal," Stewart said. "It's always fun playing against Bobbi. We have a good idea of how we both play, so it's just a matter of who could impose their game better."
Amanda Hendry earned the bronze medal in women's singles.
Motor City Welcomes the APP for the First Time
Beyond the medals, the 2026 APP Detroit Open marked the APP Tour's debut in Detroit, with hundreds of players competing at the Vibe Credit Union Showplace in Novi — from elite pros to the AARP Champions (50+) and Masters (60+) divisions, the Humana Cup, and amateur players of all levels from across the region.
In the AARP Champions division, Eugenia Carolina Lopez Ascarate, Marcello Jardim and Karin Ptaszek-Kochis each won two gold medals. Jaime Oncins and Dayne Gingrich also brought home gold. In the Masters (60+) division, Dana Treister completed a Triple Crown with gold medals in men's singles, mixed doubles alongside Anna Shirley, and men's doubles alongside Scott Greenberg.
Highlights from the tournament will air nationwide on ESPN2 and CBS Sports Network in the coming weeks. The APP Tour's Midwest swing continues Sept. 17-20 with the 2026 APP Overland Park Open.
