APP Tour Doubles Prize Money to $3 Million and Expands Its 2027 Schedule

The announcement came Monday straight from its founder: Ken Herrmann confirmed that the Association of Pickleball Players (APP) will double the prize money across its professional circuit, going from $1.5 million in 2026 to $3 million in 2027 — a 100% year-over-year increase, and one of the strongest signals yet of where the money in this sport is headed.

The Number That Changes the Math for Every Pro Player

This isn't a minor adjustment. Doubling a prize fund from one year to the next is the kind of move that reshapes the conversation inside any professional locker room — even more so in a sport where, until just a couple of years ago, competing full-time was still a financially risky bet for most athletes.

The increase directly benefits the nearly 70 male and female professionals who have joined the APP Tour since the start of 2026. "The athletes are the foundation of everything we do," Herrmann said. "A healthy professional sport requires meaningful competitive opportunities and a structure that rewards performance. This investment is another important step toward delivering that."

More Events, More Streaming, More Reach

Money wasn't the only announcement. APP also confirmed its U.S. schedule will grow from 10 to 12 events in 2027, with the full calendar set to be revealed in the third quarter of this year.

And there's a change that will likely have a direct impact on how fans consume the tour: starting in 2027, every APP Tour event will livestream all four days, not just the decisive weekend moments. It's a clear bet on building consistent audience engagement, not just spikes of attention around the finals.

A Move Within a Bigger Board

This announcement isn't happening in a vacuum. As we've been covering at DINK Authority, APP is already interwoven with the APP Asia Tour and its leading role within the Global Pickleball Alliance — the same alliance that, according to Herrmann, across all three platforms already offers professionals worldwide more than 50 events a year to compete, gain exposure, and build sustainable long-term careers.

Viewed alongside what we've already reported on the Asia Tour's explosive growth this summer — Utsunomiya, Penang, and Malaysia solidifying its role as the regional base — this announcement confirms a pattern: APP isn't growing in disconnected pieces. It's deliberately building an interconnected global ecosystem.

The Numbers Are Moving, and So Is the Whole Ecosystem

Signings keep advancing. Commercial deals keep advancing. And the APP Tour, which was already building a higher level of competition and a spotless reputation within professional pickleball, just knocked it out of the park with this announcement — one that's sure to get people talking, and for all the right reasons. We'll be watching closely as this major announcement for global pickleball continues to develop.
