Raquel Amaro: From Professional Tennis to the Heart of Global Pickleball
Raquel Amaro’s journey through professional sports is a story of resilience, reinvention, and passion. From her early days competing in tennis courts across Venezuela to becoming a rising presence in the global pickleball scene, her career reflects the determination required to thrive at the highest levels of competition.
Born in Venezuela and currently based in Madrid, Spain, Raquel has carried her competitive spirit across continents. Her athletic path began early, picking up a racket at just three years old. It did not take long for her natural talent to become evident.
As a junior tennis player, she quickly rose through the national ranks, becoming the number one player in Venezuela across multiple youth categories. Her achievements allowed her to represent her country in South American tournaments, world championships, and prestigious international competitions including the Billie Jean King Cup.
Her success on the court also opened academic doors. Raquel earned a full tennis scholarship to pursue her undergraduate degree and later completed a Master’s degree in Marketing in the United States. During her collegiate career, she reached impressive rankings in the NCAA, finishing among the top athletes in both singles and doubles and earning All-American honors.
After years competing at a professional level in tennis, Raquel decided in 2023 to step away from the sport. But for a true competitor, the desire to challenge herself never disappears.
That competitive fire led her to pickleball.

Although she first discovered the sport casually in 2020, it was not until 2025 that she made the decision to pursue it seriously. Since then, she has approached pickleball with the same discipline that defined her tennis career — structured training, physical preparation, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Today, Raquel is an active competitor in the professional pickleball circuit while also representing Venezuela in international tournaments. One of her next major goals is to compete in the World Pickleball Championship in Fort Lauderdale.
Her ambitions extend beyond personal success. Raquel sees pickleball as an opportunity to represent her country on the global stage and inspire a new generation of athletes.
“My goal is to keep growing as a professional athlete and represent Venezuela in international tournaments,” she says.
Living in Spain, she is also witnessing firsthand the rapid expansion of pickleball across Europe. More clubs are opening, tournaments are multiplying, and new players are discovering the sport every day.
For Raquel, pickleball represents both a new chapter and a continuation of the competitive spirit that has defined her entire career.
She describes herself as disciplined, determined, and deeply passionate about sport. Beyond competition, she hopes to inspire others — especially women and young athletes — to discover the opportunities that pickleball can offer.
“ I want to inspire more people, especially women and young players, to fall in love with this sport that has given me so many rewards.”
As pickleball continues to grow worldwide, athletes like Raquel Amaro are helping shape the sport’s international future.
