Day 1: Naples Comes Alive as the 2026 U.S. Open Pickleball Championships Begin

Naples, Florida — The sun had barely climbed above the palm trees when we walked into the grounds of East Naples Community Park. Even at that early hour, something was already clear: the energy was different.

The U.S. Open Pickleball Championships had officially begun.

Players were already warming up on multiple courts, volunteers were guiding competitors to their matches, and spectators were finding seats along the fences and stands. Within minutes, the unmistakable rhythm of pickleball filled the air — the constant pop of the ball echoing across dozens of courts.

Naples was alive again.

Nearly 4,000 Players Take the Courts

Day 1 confirmed why the U.S. Open remains one of the most iconic tournaments in the sport.

This year's edition features nearly 4,000 registered players, coming from across the United States and multiple countries around the world. The massive complex at East Naples Community Park once again transformed into a true pickleball campus, with more than 50 courts active throughout the day.

Early rounds focused primarily on amateur divisions, age categories, and junior competitions. While the biggest professional matchups will arrive later in the week, the opening day always sets the tone — and this year was no exception.

From the first serve to the final matches of the afternoon, the courts were constantly busy.

More Than a Tournament

Walking through the venue, it quickly becomes clear that the U.S. Open is not just a competition.

It’s a celebration of the sport.

Between matches, fans explored sponsor booths, watched demonstrations of the latest paddles and gear, and gathered around the center areas where music and announcements kept the atmosphere lively.

Food trucks lined the park, players shared stories between matches, and spectators moved from court to court chasing the most exciting rallies of the day.

It’s easy to understand why this event has earned the nickname:

“The Biggest Pickleball Party in the World.”

A Moment That Captured the Spirit of the Event

One of the most memorable moments of the opening day came when Special Olympics athletes stepped onto the courts.

The crowd responded with applause and encouragement, creating one of the most emotional moments of the day. It was a reminder that the U.S. Open has always been about more than elite competition.

It’s about community.

And nowhere is that more evident than here in Naples.

A Tournament Celebrating 10 Years

The 2026 edition carries additional significance. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the U.S. Open Pickleball Championships, a tournament that began in 2016 and has grown into one of the largest gatherings in the sport.

Over the past decade, the event has helped shape the growth of pickleball, bringing together players of all ages and levels while drawing fans from around the globe.

Today, Naples becomes the center of the pickleball world for an entire week.

What Comes Next

While the opening weekend focuses heavily on amateur and age divisions, the intensity of the tournament will build throughout the week.

In the coming days, the event will feature:

• higher-level brackets
• international competitors advancing through the draws
• and eventually the championship rounds that traditionally draw the largest crowds.

By the time the finals arrive next weekend, East Naples Community Park will be packed with fans watching some of the most anticipated matches of the tournament.

From Naples — Day 1

As we walked out of the park late in the afternoon, matches were still being played across the complex. Players were discussing points, families were taking photos, and the sound of pickleball continued echoing across the courts.

The first day of the 2026 U.S. Open Pickleball Championships delivered exactly what this event has become known for: energy, community, and a global celebration of the sport.

And this is only the beginning.
